Navigating Phone Services: From TextNow to Skype and TextPlus
I had been relying on a TextNow app for free phone service for years until they unexpectedly disabled my account, causing significant inconvenience since I use two-factor authentication for numerous banking and other websites. It took me a while to recover from the setback. Currently, I have purchased a Skype phone number with unlimited minutes for just $2.99 USD per month. This allows people to call me as if I were in the US, requiring only an internet connection.
However, Skype does not support voice notes and charges a fee for sending texts. To address this, I utilize another free app called TextPlus, which allows me to send text messages and voice notes without any charge. Moreover, TextPlus has recently introduced free calling as well. Despite the fact that TextPlus is free, I recommend considering the small annual fee of $53 USD for Skype to avoid encountering the same issues that I faced.
I'm American but I have found that these apps also work the same for other countries. Feel free to give them a try in your country of origin as well.
