Moc Bai Border Run
The Moc Bai border run is straightforward and typically takes about 5 hours to complete. It's a two-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City. I usually hire a private driver since it's quite affordable, especially since the run is only required every 90 days. Alternatively, you can choose to ride a bike or take a bus for a cheaper option.
Before heading to the border, ensure you have your e-visa arranged while you're outside of Vietnam. Currently, I have purchased six overlapping e-visas that cover me for the next 1.5 years. If you don't have your e-visa, you'll need to pay an agent for expedited service while you wait at the border.
I recommend buying a Cambodian e-visa online for $35. If you choose to pay at the border, make sure to bring exact change, and the stamp takes up an entire page of your passport. After crossing to the Cambodian side, simply fill out a small form and present your e-visa.
Be aware that border officials may sometimes ask for a "coffee fee" of 100,000 VND, but I just decline saying I don't give cash. The return to Vietnam with your new visa is quick, typically taking only 30 to 45 minutes, then you're back on your way to Ho Chi Minh City.
Below, I've listed some private car options I've used for this journey.
